This is the english version of my Mitered socks-pattern. I'm quite bad at spelling so please be gentle with me. :)
This socks came to me while knitting Elisabeth Zimmermann's Mitered Mittens. They are knitted from the cuff down and they have kind of an unusual toe and heel. Hope you will understand my language and that you will have fun knitting them. If there is any questions ask me here or on ravelry!
Yarn; I used Regia designline Kaffe Fasset, but any sockyarn with stripes will do fine, why not use up old leftovers? If you have 100 g you'd be sure not to run out of yarn.
Needles; Five 2,5 mm dpn:s.
Cuff: CO 60 sts. Knit twisted rib [ k1 throug back loop, p1 throug back loop ] for 10 rounds on 4 needles. (15 sts on each needle.)
Leg: Knit one row.
Start to knit pattern like this;
needle 1: k1, make 1, knit 11, 2tog,k1
needle 2: k1, ssk, k 11, make 1, k1
needle 3: as needle 1
needle 4: as needle 4
row 2: k all
Repeat thees two rows for as long as you wish your leg to be. Finnish with row 2.
Mark the heel: Now it's time to place out the marking for the heel. Use a scrapyarn in a different color and knit all sts on needle 1 and 2. (You will knit the heel last.)
Go back to needle 1 and knit one row starting att needle 1 = beginning of row.
Foot: Continue in pattern as set. Knit until the foot mesures about 10 cm less than your whole foot. Mesure from the markning for the heel. ( Ex. my foot is 23 cm så I knit 13 cm.)
Toe: Now the decreses for the toe begins.
Needle 1: knit all until you have 3 sts left, k 2tog, k 1
Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit all
Needle 3: as needle 1
Needle 4: as needle 2
Row 2: knit all.
Continue to decrease until you have 24 sts (6 on each needle).
Needle 1: k3, k2tog, k1.
Needle 2: k1, ssk, k3, with the same needle knit 3, k2tog, k1 from needle 3. You now have 10 sts on needle 2.
Needle 4: k1, ssk, k3, with the same needle knit the 5 sts from needle 1.
You now have 20 sts, 10 on each needle.
Graft toe together using kitchener sts.
Heel: Pick up 30 sts on each side of the marking thread. 60 sts in total. Pull out the markingthread. The heel is knitted in the round just like the sock.
Knit like this;
Needle 1: Pick up 1 and knit it, k 15.
Needle 2: K 15, pick up 1 and knit it.
Needle 3: As needle 1.
Needle 4: As needle 2.
64 sts in total.
Knit 4 rounds.
Start heelldecrease as follows:
Needle 1: K1, ssk, k all.
Needle 2: K all until you have 3 sts left, k2tog, k1.
Needle 3: as needle 1.
Needle 4: as needle 2.
Row 2: K all.
Continue to knit row 1 and row 2 until you have 10 sts /needle.
Then start to decrease as set on every row until you have 3 sts/needle.
Graft together with kitchener sts.
Knit one more sock, block them lightly and weare them with joy!
